Abstract
Tension, flexion, compression and shear tests have been performed on a unidirectional carbon fibre—epoxy resin composite and corresponding strengths, moduli, failure strains and Poisson’s ratios determined. Fracture surfaces of specimens which appeared in mechanical testing were observed on a scanning electron microscope. The results obtained for mechanical properties have been analysed in relation to constituent properties and by comparing them mutually. An attempt to distinguish physical processes occurring in failure under different types of loading was made by micrographic analysis of fractured surfaces.
