Abstract

For practical purposes the history of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) goes back only to late 1945 when Block and Purcell independently observed NMR signals for the first time. It was not until the mid-1960s that commercial instruments became readily available, and prior to this many workers built their own equipment.
