Abstract
The generally accepted recommendations for limiting exposures to ionising radiations are those set out by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). These recommendations concern limitation of exposure to external irradiation and also limitation of intakes of radioactive materials into the body by ingestion or inhalation. The basic recommendations of the Commission are set out in ICRP Publication 26 [ICRP 77] and recommendations concerning limiting of intakes of radioactive materials are set out in Publication 30 [ICRP 79].
