Abstract
Welcome to this symposium on ‘The Management of Childbirth in Normal Women’. A lay person might be forgiven for expressing surprise that so many obstetricians, midwives and paediatricians should have gathered to discuss such an apparently straightforward issue. We know that the great majority of women in developed countries are normal and healthy both in a general and in uncomplicated and normal too.
