Abstract
Despite the advances in the care of pregnant women, pregnanacy hypertension remains one of the major causes of maternal death and morbidity. In developing countries eclampsia remains a serious problem with a high mortality rate. The reported maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality rates for pregnancy hypertension vary throughout the world due to the lack of uniformity in diagnosis and incomplete international statistics. Even in the developed countries the maternal and fetal death rates due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are usually under-reported.
