Abstract
In the management of the asphyxiated newborn, careful clinical assessment is essential. As an aid to this assessment a variety of investigative methods have recently become available. Advances in technology and imaging now give the clinician a wide range of methods by which to look at the asphyxiated newborn in order to better manage these infants. These methods are employed either to make a more definitive diagnosis of pathology or to detect complications early in order to institute appropriate treatment. Imaging and monitoring methods will be discussed separately.
