Abstract
Blood is the fluid contained in the circulatory system. There are approximately 6 litres (10 pints) of blood in the adult male body although this varies according to size of the casualty. It also depends on the age of the casualty and a young child may only have one or two pints of blood. Blood is composed of red cells, white cells and platelets floating in fluid called plasma (Figure 4.1).
