Abstract

Half a century ago, the term ’chronic hepatitis’ was a synonym for cirrhosis of the liver1. According to Eppinger, the activity of the cirrhotic process was thought to be reflected in an irregular outline of cirrhotic nodules crowded with mononuclear inflammatory cells2.
