Abstract
Repair of the scar contracture of the Achilles tendon following severe burns of the lower extremities has presented a difficult problem. In the past, normal skin coverage was always required before the Achilles tendon could be lengthened. Thus the patient used to be under the heavy economic and emotional burdens of long hospitalization and multistage surgical procedures. To shorten the period of hospitalization, we designed a new method of Achilles tendon lengthening to correct the deformity in one stage, and good results have been obtained since 1976.
