Abstract
In the preceding chapters we have looked in detail at a number of different aspects of the association between black-headed gulls and two species of plover, from the function of pre-foraging flocks and the aggregation of birds on different types of pasture to the effects of flock size and composition on time budgeting and feeding efficiency and the kleptoparasitic activities of gulls. While the important points raised in each chapter are emphasised in a resume and summary, we feel that the results and interrelationships between chapters are sufficiently complex to merit a brief synthesis. The aim of this short, final chapter is to provide an overview of the study as a whole and to highlight some of its main conclusions.
