Abstract
The following notes are a summary of four lectures given on modeling the general circulation of the atmosphere. Since five or six hours are hardly sufficient to cover everything in general circulation modeling, and since in addition, these notes are a condensation of what was discussed, the reader will have to consult the references at the end of each lecture, to find the details worked out for many of the topics which have been necessarily treated very briefly here. I have not tried to present a complete reference list. However, the references given, plus the references within the references, will give the reader a good working knowledge of the subject.
