An Infrared Calibration of the Cepheid Distance Scale

Abstract

The results of a five-year campaign to recalibrate the Cepheid period-luminosity relation in the infrared are reviewed. The advantages and limitations of the method as presently used, are highlighted; and finally, new apparent infrared distance moduli relative to the LMC are given for all late-type resolved members of the Local Group with known Cepheids. These include the LMC, SMC, NGC 6822, M33, M31 and IC 1613.
