The Semiconductor-Electrolyte Interface

  • Chapter
Trends in Interfacial Electrochemistry

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 179))

Abstract

This lecture considers the distribution of charge and potential at the semiconductor-electrolyte interface and examines the influence of different types of surface sites on the electro-chemical behaviour of semiconductors. A brief analysis of the illuminated semiconductor-electrolyte interface follows, and it is shown that non-steady state photocurrents can be related to the density and energy level of surface states. The lecture concludes with some experimental results which illustrate the effects of surface recombination at p-GaP and suggests some new experimental approaches to the study of surface states and photo-chemical kinetics.
