Abstract
Measurements of aerosol parameters have been made on the Hebridean island of South Uist off the northwestern coast of Scotland during the years 1980–81. Spectra characterization is based on measurements with PMS light-scattering probes. An ASASP (0.1–1.5μm radius) and CSASP (0.25–16μm) have been operated from a 10 m tower situated a few metres from the high water mark of a gently sloping sandy beach. At 2 m height, next to the high water mark, an ASASP, FSSP (0.25–23.5μm) and an OAP (5–150μm) have also been operated. Meteorological sampling, consisting of wind speed and direction, and wet and dry bulb temperatures, ran continuously with the probes; additional routine observations of cloud type and height, possible pollution sources and other useful information was recorded by hand.
