Abstract
The exciton model (EM) contains both statistical multistep compound (SMC) and direct (SMD) contributions. The SMC part of the EM can be derived exactly from the microscopic random-matrix model (RMM) of Agassi et al. /1/ without use of the detailed balance argument and the Golden Rule.
