Abstract
Physical-chemical parameters derived from equilibrium partitioning are described and discussed within the context of biogeochemical cycles of pollutant organic chemicals in ground water and marine ecosystems. A few examples of actual field data are used to illustrate current state-of-knowledge regarding application of these parameters (Kow, Koc BCF-biological concentration factors) and concepts to ground water, estuarine and open ocean ecosystems. Further research and assessment considerations are discussed within the context of comparison of land and ocean disposal of wastes containing organic compounds of environmental concern.
