A Fabry-Perot Based Stellar Seismometer

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 169))

Abstract

A simple stellar seismometer for velocity or line strength observations is described, based on a stabilized tunable Fabry-Perot interferometer. Preliminary studies indicate that a stability of near 30 cm/s over many hours should be attainable. The techniques for achieving such stability are described, and a discussion is given of the observational program possible with such an instrument on existing large telescopes.
