Abstract

We have so far discussed subgroups of the Lorentz group which can describe the internal space-time symmetries of relativistic particles. Transformations of these subgroups leave the four-momentum of a particle invariant. The four-momentum which remains invariant under transformations of the homogeneous Lorentz group has to vanish. Since there are no particles with vanishing four-momentum, this group does not serve any useful purpose as a little group. However, this fact alone cannot eliminate the homogeneous Lorentz group from our consideration.
