Abstract
The examination of the genesis of Newton’s theory of space developed into an investigation of the genesis of the theory of bourgeois individualism; I hope the results have justified the expanded form. From the explanation of the origin of Newton’s theory space presented here, a number of consequences can be drawn for the questions posed in the Introduction as to the socio-historical determination of scientific concept formation and the relationship between philosophy and natural science.
