Abstract
There are various kinds of vibration compacting machines used for compressing soil in excavations, road works, and filled trenches. This analysis considers a hand driven machine modelled by a two-mass system in vertical motion. Such a model reveals the basic form of the machine dynamics with reasonable accuracy, and is susceptible to further refinement.
