Fluid-Elastic Whirling of Infinite Tube Rows and Arrays in Cross-Flow

  • Conference paper
Industrial Vibration Modelling

Abstract

The quasi-steady displacement dependent model due to Connors and Blevins, for the fluidelastic whirling instability of an infinite tube row is briefly reviewed and extended to yield the frequency of the whirling vibrations together with the corresponding mode shapes. The model is developed further and applied to symmetrically spaced staggered infinite arrays. Stability criteria for predicting the onset of large amplitude whirling vibrations and the corresponding frequencies are obtained, together with the corresponding mode shapes, for various angles of stagger and tube spacings.
