Abstract
Over the last ten years the most important single development in urban modelling has been the construction and operationalisation of dynamic models. Progress, on many fronts, has been swift, often involving elegant mathematics and novel insights into the dynamic properties of models that have been used for some time, as well as new models that have been proposed. The field also has become fashionable, attracting researchers from other disciplines to try their hand at this new and growing subject area. As a consequence, there now exists an impressive body of literature concerning the development of dynamic urban models (for example, Wilson, 1981; Griffith and Lea, 1983; Dendrinos and Mullally, 1985).
