On the Limits to the Information Obtainable from a Moire Fringe Pattern

  • Conference paper
Book cover Experimental Stress Analysis

Abstract

The moire method of strain measurement, together with modern derivatives, is now well established (see, for example, [1]). As more and more detailed information is sought about strain-fields, for example in relation to crack-tip behavior, so do the limitations of the classical method of fringe interpretation (the ‘Discrete Moire Law’), appear irksome. In consequence, a variety of fringe interpolation methods have been proposed and applied.
