Summary

A description is given of the calibration procedure as derived and followed by TNO-IWECO when calibrating force transducers. From the measuring results some parameters are being derived by which the transducer is classified. The classification scheme is also presented. A short description is given of TNO-IWECO’s facilities for carrying out the calibrations. Attention is being given to the system which has been set up for securing the traceability of the used facilities. In this respect special reference is made to results of intercomparisons which have been carried out. In particular the results of an intercomparison between PTB and TNO in the case of three transfer standards are given. Two transfer standards which are of the build-up type are used for linking force generating machines to the 550 kN deadweight standardizing machine of TNO-IWECO. They can also be used for calibrating force transducers by positioning them upon the transfer standard in a force generating machine.
