Abstract
In practice, the terms and definitions for force transducers are used quite differently. The consequence is very often a different interpretation of the same terms, resulting in confusion. Two years ago, therefore, in the Federal Republic, a board of VDI/VDE GMR started on work to standardize these terms and definitions. This work is now completed and will be published as a draft VDI/VDE 2638 (green print) this year. Renewed discussions will take place a year later on the basis of comments received.
