Abstract

The ‘Cooperativa Regional Tritícola Serrana Ltda — Cotrijuí’ was founded in 1957 and is an association of 22,250 farmers. It is concerned with the production, processing and commercialization of agricultural products in three areas of Brazil. In Mato Grosso do Sul State, its area of influence extends to about 10,000,000 ha of agricultural land, of which only 1,500,000 ha are devoted to arable cropping. The administrative office is in Campo Grande (20°25’S, 54°35’W). In Rio Grande do Sul State its area of influence is in Dom Pedrito (31°S, 54°35’W) where there are 72,000 ha of cereal growing land and in Ijuí (28°20’S, 53°50’W) where 400,000 ha are very intensively and continuously cropped with wheat and soybeans.
