Abstract
The influence of forest drainage on peatland hydrology is not without controversy in Finland. Both beneficial and detrimental changes in runoff following drainage have been reported. Because of the large area of peatland that has been drained for forestry purposes, the debate is particularly important. Of approximately 9.7 million hectares of the land area covered by peat, perhaps half has been drained.
