Abstract
With a certain abstraction one can define site classification (or site mapping) as a means of grouping forest sites according to their capability of growing trees and terrain classification as a means of grouping forest land according to ease or difficulty of forest operations. Whether the so-called hazard rating or susceptibility classification, concerning mainly the risk of soil compaction and mass movement, should be dealt with as an issue of site or terrain classification or as a separate subject is not a question of this contribution.
