Summary

Continuous irradiation with light of different wavelengths under steady state conditions (equal photon fluence in every case) results in an increased activity of alanine aminotransferase (180%) and aspartate aminotransferase (149%) in blue light, and in a decreased activity (64% and 83%, respectively) in red light (in relation to white light = 100%). In pulsed blue light experiments (436 nm) the activity of both enzymes is enhanced immediately after irradiation (119% and 123%, respectively), but diminished after a post-irradiation dark period of 2 hours (93% and 88%, respectively; dark control = 100%).
