Abstract

Patent (28/1) of De Beers Industrial Diamond Division (Proprietary) Ltd. (South Africa) aims at producing a hard material, essentially consisting of BxCyNz in tetrahedron form, whereby x, y and z may have any value greater than 1 or 1 and x = z, but not equal with y. The hard material is obtained by exposing boron, nitrogen and carbon containing materials to conditions, permitting the formation of the hard material, for example under a pressure of min. 50 kbar and a temperature between 1300 and 2000°C.
