Abstract
This chapter focuses on cardiac surgical nursing care of the adult as it has evolved to its current level of practice in 1983 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. At this institution, heart surgery had some of its earliest beginnings in 1948 and the first designated intensive care unit was established in 1951.
