Bioassay systems and their use in the diagnosis of mycotoxicoses

  • Chapter
Diagnosis of Mycotoxicoses

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science ((CTVM,volume 33))

Abstract

Interest in bioassays for the diagnosis of animal disease caused by mycotoxins is usually generated from two lines of inquiry. First, does the system aid in the identification of the disease and secondly, does the system provide information relating to the cause or nature of the condition? In the broadest definition, bioassays would include analyses of the effects of mycotoxins on any biological system ranging from long-term to short-term, prokaryotes to eukaryotes, plants to animals and in vivo to in vitro studies.
