Abstract

One set of generalizations that has emerged from the case histories concerns the importance of taking a client orientation as a way of organizing DOER. In this chapter we will describe what is meant by client orientation and why it is important. This approach will be contrasted with several alterative strategies for organizing this type of research. Evidence will be drawn from the case histories to illustrate the nature and benefits of taking a client orientation. Finally, the chapter concludes with a detailed discussion of the potential pitfalls to be found in such an approach and procedures that can be used to minimize these dangers.
