Ethylene Vinyl Acetate and its Acetoxy-Hydroxide Transformation

Abstract

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers belong to the family of polyolefin resins. They are thermoplastic materials which are produced by polymerising ethylene gas with vinyl acetate. They can be synthesised to contain only a few per cent by weight of the vinyl acetate comonomer or they can be produced with amounts of vinyl acetate well in excess of 50%. Those polymers with a low vinyl acetate content have properties closely related to those of a low density ethylene homopolymer (LPDE) while those with a high vinyl acetate content are similar in appearance to gum rubber.
