Herbal Remedies

The Law on Medicines

Abstract

These have a long history and most of the naturally occurring medicines used today originated as herbal remedies. Their use declined during the ‘therapeutic explosion’ in which numerous sulphonamides, tranquillisers, and other classes of drugs were synthesised. Currently they (and other ‘alternative regimes’) are undergoing a resurgence in popularity. Many people feel that, being ‘natural’ they are superior to synthetics, and certainly many of them do not give rise to the side-effects that frequently accompany the use of the pure active constituents.
