Abstract
A workshop on marine algal polysaccharides was held to replace the scheduled minisymposium which was to have been chaired by Dr Wilfred Yaphe. This account of the workshop is dedicated to the memory of Dr Yaphe, whose pioneering role in the combined use of NMR spectroscopy and enzymatic degradation has done much to advance our knowledge of algal polysaccharide structure.
