Abstract

This book gives an account of a vegetation study on the Kafue Flats in southwestern Zambia. The Kafue Flats cover an area of approximately 7000 km2, about three quarters of which is seasonally flooded. The major vegetation types on the extensive plain are treeless grassland communities of various species compositions. In contrast with the zonobiome of this part of Africa, which is defined as the tropical summer rainfall area with deciduous forests, the Kafue Flats are regarded a pedobiome.
