Summary
Identification of Cheumatopsyche larvae to the species level has remained an intractable taxonomic problem in spite of the importance of these species in hydrobiological work. New sets of setal and cuticular characters, similar to those applied to larval diagnoses in Hydropsyche (Schefter and Wiggins 1986) offer promise of some advance in this problem. Character suites derived from setae of the head and notal sclerites, and minute spines on the notal sclerites and abdominal cuticle have diagnostic value in species investigated. Of fourteen species in which larvae were associated and analyzed, ten were found to have diagnostic combinations of characters.
