Abstract

In Lake Glubokoe (Moscow region) five species of Daphnia have been found: D. cristata, D. cucullata, D. curvirostris, D. galeata, and D. hyalina. This paper presents descriptions of the morphology of various populations of these species, and new data on their geographical distribution, and discusses the taxonomic status of certain species. Arguments are given in favour of the assertion that D. thorata and D. balchashensis are synonyms of D. galeata. It is shown that there are no grounds for the discrimination of the subspecies D. galeata galeata and D. galeata mendotae.
