Abstract

The nature and scope of powder diffraction with a white, pulsed beam of neutrons is discussed. Analysis of the data by the Rietveld profile technique is described in brief, and a range of applications in solid state physics and chemistry is reviewed, including the use of ultra-high resolution methods to solve crystal structures from powder data. Diffraction with pulsed neutron sources is compared with constant wavelength methods and also with X-ray synchrotron powder techniques.
