Abstract

The main average characteristics have been calculated for the hadron and muon components of EAS from primary 1015 eV photons. The standard model of nuclear interactions has been used. The obtained results confirm the criteria applied in the analysis of the Tien Shan experimental data for the selection of muon poor and hadron poor showers as gamma-showers. The low average energy of a photonuclear interaction suppresses the generation of high energy muons (Eµ > 500 GeV) in events generated by primary photons of very high energy. The calculated lateral distributions of muons with Eµ > 5 G and Eµ > 2 GeV in gamma-initiated showers predict a ≳ 8 ÷ 10 times lower density of the muon flux in comparison with the one in showers from primary protons or nuclei.
