Summary

This paper is a synthesis and report on the workshop held in Lökeberg, Sweden in October 1986 which was organized in the framework of the Concerted Action “Effects of Air Pollution on Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystems” (COST 612) project, by the Commission of the European Communities, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the Swedish Environmental Research Institute. The meeting considered four themes each of which were introduced by an invited review and then contributed to by research presentations (1), the main points made and some general comments on each theme are given below. I will not review those papers concerned with methodology because this topic will be considered in Part III of the session on forest ecosystems.
