Abstract

The presence of Lewis bases is essential to improve the stereospecificity of high activity catalyst systems for olefin polymerization based on AIR3 and titanium halides supported on activated MgCl2.

This paper reviews the main hypotheses formulated in order to elucidate the role of the Lewis bases. The structure of the support, the models of catalytic sites and the chemical interactions of the Lewis bases with the other components of the catalytic systems are discussed in relation to the proposed mechanisms.
