Abstract

Metal-carbene complexes (titanium to iridium) are now well recognized as chain carriers in the metathesis polymerization of cycloalkenes and alkynes. The reaction proceeds via the formation and cleavage of a meta 11 acyc1obutane complex in the case of ring-opening polymerization, and a metallacyclobutene complex in the case of alkyne polymerization.
