Vectorial Electron Transfer in Organized Assemblies and Colloidal Semiconductors

  • Chapter
Supramolecular Photochemistry

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 214))

Abstract

Recent work from our laboratory in the field of light-induced electron transfer reactions in micellar assemblies and colloidal semiconductors will be reviewed. Examples of functional molecular assemblies to optimize electron transfer rates and photo-induced charge separation will be given. Charge carrier reactions in colloidal semi-conductor systems will be discussed. A recent exciting development in this field concerns the sensitization of wide band gap materials. The discovery of vectorial electron transfer on fractal TiO2 layers led to the development of a device showing incident photon to current light harvesting efficiencies of over 60%.
