Abstract

With the help of a new Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and a long-path low-temperature absorption cell, spectra of the H2-Ar molecule have been obtained in the 1-0 band region (λ ≈ 2.2 μm) with increased resolution and greatly increased line position accuracy. The first resolved spectrum of H2-Ar in the 2-0 band region (λ ≈ 1.2 μm) has also been obtained; this result should improve determinations of the dependence of the hydrogen - argon potential surface on the bond length of hydrogen.
