Abstract

The physical properties of ice grown from aqueous ionic solutions are briefly reviewed. Special attention is given to HF, NH3 and NH4F that are likely to enter the lattice of ice in substitutional positions at least at very low concentrations. Incorporation in interstitial positions must be considered in order to explain the high value of the diffusion coefficient of HF in ice. In some cases formation of impurity clusters occurs.
