Abstract
Since the theme of this workshop is the internal rotation of the Sun, I will discuss primarily the problem of the internal rotation of stars with masses and internal evolution which are similar to that of the Sun. Observations of solar type stars in different stages of evolution throw light on the past and future history of the Sun. At the same time, the ability to study stars with different rates of surface rotation, different masses and chemical compositions, provides an opportunity to test more thoroughly and convincingly the physical principles which underlie our models of the solar interior and its state of internal rotation.
