Abstract
In early-type stars, efficient thermal convection arises only in the central region, but even a convective core may be the cause of various instabilities. Some of the instabilities which are associated with convection are discussed, with the possible consequences on the behavior of the surface layers.
The instabilities due to rotation are briefly reviewed. Some of them are likely to generate a mild turbulence, whose nature and efficiency are still a matter of conjecture. In early-type stars, this turbulence may mix the radiative envelope to some extent, and it may also deliver mechanical energy to their outer layers.
