Abstract
It has long been recognized that seismic wave characteristics measured at the earth’s surface can provide information not only about the attitude and distribution of interfaces between rock types within the earth, but also about the mineralogy, and the state of the subsurface rocks. In fact much of our knowledge about the internal constitution of the earth has been derived from seismic wave characteristics such as velocities and amplitudes.
